  1. Enter Proteus, Julia.

  1. Have patience, gentle Julia.

  1. I must, where is no remedy.

Proteus

  1. When possibly I can, I will return.

  1. If you turn not, you will return the sooner.
  2. Keep this remembrance for thy Julia’s sake.
  1. Giving a ring.

  1. Why then we’ll make exchange: here, take you this.

  1. And seal the bargain with a holy kiss.

  1. Here is my hand for my true constancy;
  2. And when that hour o’erslips me in the day
  3. Wherein I sigh not, Julia, for thy sake,
  4. The next ensuing hour some foul mischance
  5. Torment me for my love’s forgetfulness!
  6. My father stays my coming; answer not;
  7. The tide is nownay, not thy tide of tears,
  8. That tide will stay me longer than I should.
  9. Julia, farewell!
  10. Exit Julia.
  11.                  What, gone without a word?
  12. Ay, so true love should do: it cannot speak,
  13. For truth hath better deeds than words to grace it.
  1. Enter Panthino.

  1.                                  Go; I come, I come.
  2. Alas, this parting strikes poor lovers dumb.
